Also lasset den Striptease beginnen!

Und was jetzt?

🙂

Mit besonderem Dank an das Fräulein Rückenwind.{:}{:en}A few months ago (ALREADY?!) the wonderful photo-/lomographer Trashpilotin  sent me one of her La Sardina cameras. (Seriously, check out the pictures on her blog Rueckenwind, they’re stunning!)
Several of her lomos made it into the final Top 100 of the “People of your city” contest and only missed the Top 10 by an eyelash, which was inexplicable really, but still a super great achievement.
So, like a kid on Christmas morning I started unwrapping her package and –tadaa- one of Lomography’s latest cameras emerged: the canned La Sardina – fully equipped with Fritz the Blitz! Whoop-whoop!

I put in a cheap film and started shooting right away, trying to get a feel for it. I haven’t really posted any Sardina-pictures so far, because I wanted to post this first. And before I posted this, I wanted to re-decorate the camera.
I don’t know how many La Sardinas got raffled with regard to said contest, but there must have been a lot, because it got kind of hip to personalize this camera that, in the contest edition, bears the company’s logo on the front.
If you want to re-decorate you Sardina as well, you’ll find lots of articles over on lomography.com on how how to dismantle La Sardinas that are not DIY-editions.

And so I started to strip my La Sardina..

…until it looked like this naked little monkey:

So, what now? Painting the white plastic parts? (Actually, that was my original plan, I’d even bought the paint…)

Glue-ing funny maps on it?

Or putting old Lomos on my new Lomo camera?

I actually opted for the maps, but eventually changed my mind and got back to the picturesque option… and now I’ve got some spare sets 😉
So I rummaged through some old pictures, cut them into shape (with a big hole for the front of course) and put everything back together. And – tadaaa – at the moment, my La Sardina is looking like this:

I cut up a few more pictures, so I can change the look of La Sardina to my heart’s content. I didn’t put any finish on the pictures, especially no common coating, since it kind of dissolves the picture. But when working with paper I would definitely use some finish (if the paper is really paper-thin, better to glue it on some cardboard first) to keep your new design from wearing off too quickly.

And coming up? Some brand new La Sardina lomographs, of course!

Love this, great decoration! Looking forward to see your images from your Sardina. I have one too, one of the metallic ones, but I have never got any decent results with it… Maybe I wasn’t patient enough….

Thank you Marie, always nice to hear from you!
I already got 2 films developed and I must say I am pleasantly surprised. It’s a shame, though, that there aren’t any settings you can choose from (except double and long exposures). One of the metallic ones? How cool! My favourite design is that of the Belle Starr 😉
